fix(kotlin): read a function's signature positionally (#1495) (#1807)
Land upstream PR #1687 by danusha2345 (fix commit 6e9bbb26), using the PR tip implementation with only a Rust doc-comment placement cleanup. Read parameter lists and return types positionally in the wasm extractor and native kernel in lockstep, preserving verbatim signature text. Verified on Linux x64 with Node 22.19.0: reproduced three undefined signatures in both backends before the fix, then confirmed all three expected signatures and exact wasm/kernel parity after rebuilding TypeScript and the linux-x64 kernel. All 31 focused tests pass: 15 Kotlin extraction, 6 Kotlin parity, and 10 kernel scaffold checks, with CODEGRAPH_KERNEL_EXPECT=1 for the native suites. Add the upstream #1495 changelog bullet while preserving all other Unreleased entries. Keep EXTRACTION_VERSION unchanged for this bug fix. Preserve coexistence with the #1566 Map/collection fix merged in #1790, including nested holder.values.get coverage and the unchanged #1566 Unreleased changelog bullet. EXTRACTION_VERSION remains unchanged. Align the existing chained-receiver regression with the fix: a declared service field calls its method, while an anonymous field type does not bind to unrelated same-named project functions. Verified on Linux with Node 22.19.0: - Rebuilt the native kernel and TypeScript/browser distribution. - Both backends change Outbox::send -> Outbox::send into Outbox::send -> Mailer::send, keep Relay::forward -> Mailer::send, and store no self-edges in the issue repro. - Wasm: 224 tests passed; native kernel: 255 tests passed, no skips. - All 10 #1566 resolution cases pass on each backend, plus all four nested-receiver extraction parity cases. fix(extraction): index const-bound functions inside a body as symbols (#1669) (#1774)
`const handleClear = () => {…}` inside a component — every React handler
that skips useCallback — was never a symbol: the body walker only named
nested function declarations and hook-bound arrows, so the handler was
absent from callers/impact ("Symbol not found", indistinguishable from
"no callers") and its calls attributed to the component. Bind the arrow
or function expression to its declarator the way module scope already
does, in both the wasm walker and the kernel.
A navigation such a handler makes is now the handler's own edge and a hop
in the Screens `via` chain — the shape a useCallback handler already has —
so the react-router and expo-router expectations follow that convention.

function () {…}` — the Express controller style — produced no symbol: the
arrow's parent is an assignment, not a declarator, so it stayed anonymous,
its calls attributed to the file, and `node`/`callers` answered "Symbol
not found" for a route-wired handler. Resolve the name from the export
property, mark it exported, in both the wasm walker and the kernel.

fix(extraction): a TS/JS call through a host-global chain emits no ref (#1707) (#1766)
`chrome.storage.local.get(key)` and `document.body.querySelector(s)` end in a platform API, but the extractor emitted the bare method name for them. That name then exact-matched whatever project symbol shared it: in a Chrome extension every `chrome.storage.local.get/set` inside a storage wrapper bound to the wrapper's own `get`/`set`, giving self-edges that are not in the source (#1707). A member chain whose root identifier is a host object the project never declares now emits nothing — a silent miss instead of a wrong edge, the same trade the literal-receiver gate makes (#1230). `window` is deliberately not a host root: `window.MyNs.doThing()` reaches a project symbol. A chain rooted at a project value keeps the bare name, so `store.getState().act()`, `ref.value .m()` and `this.<field>.m()` are untouched. The Rust kernel mirrors the same gate. Verified on Linux: fail→pass on both kernel and wasm arms for `__tests__/ts-chained-receiver.test.ts` (2 fail / 1 pass on main → 3/3 with the fix). fix(extraction): never fabricate an edge from a call-result receiver (#1748)
A member call whose receiver is itself a call — `d.setdefault(k, []).append(v)`, `make().run()` — used to drop the receiver at extraction time, degrade to the bare method name, and exact-match any top-level project symbol of that name (Python and JavaScript/TypeScript). Keep the inner callee encoded as `<inner>().<method>` in the TS extractor and native kernel; the name-matcher refuses to guess for that shape (store-accessor exception only). fix(kernel): guard the native walkers against stack overflow and defer deep files to wasm (#1581) (#1600)
Fixes #1581. ## What was wrong `codegraph init` / `codegraph index` died with `Segmentation fault` — the whole CLI process, not a parse worker — on a C/C++ file with very deep brace nesting (llvm's `clang/test/Parser/parser_overflow.c`, 16,384 nested `{`). The reporter's diagnosis is exactly right: tree-sitter's parser is iterative, so the file parses fine, and then the native kernel's **recursive walker** (`visit_node` → `visit_for_calls_and_structure` → …, one frame per AST level) overflowed the thread's stack. A native overflow can't be caught the way a wasm abort can, and a parse worker is a thread of the `codegraph` process, so the SIGSEGV took the entire indexer down — no message, no per-file fallback, no partial index. Two things made "just give the worker a bigger stack" the wrong fix: - it only moves the cliff — reproduced here: the reporter's 16,384-deep file kills a default 4 MiB worker (rc=132 on macOS / 139 on Linux), and a 100k-deep file kills the 8 MiB **main** thread too; - the walkers are shared by every kernel-routed language (20 of them), and each has several recursion points with different frame sizes, so no single stack size is a provable bound. Meanwhile the wasm path already handles this shape gracefully: its JS walker catches its own `RangeError` per file and stores a partial result with a `parse_error`. The kernel just needed a way to get there instead of dying. ## What this does **The kernel guards its own recursion against the calling thread's real stack bounds and defers a too-deep file to wasm** — the same `defer:` routing signal it already uses for files with parse errors, which `src/extraction/kernel/index.ts` treats as "take the wasm path for this file", silently. - `codegraph-kernel/src/stack.rs`: per-thread stack bounds from the OS, computed once per thread and cached — glibc/musl `pthread_getattr_np` + `pthread_attr_getstack`, macOS `pthread_get_stackaddr_np` + `pthread_get_stacksize_np`, Win32 `GetCurrentThreadStackLimits` (a hand-declared `kernel32` extern; no `windows-sys`). `exhausted()` is one thread-local load and one compare: true once the stack pointer is within a 256 KiB red zone of the limit, and it latches a flag. Where the OS can't report bounds it falls back to a fixed 1 MiB descent budget measured from the entry stack pointer — safe on anything from Node's 4 MiB worker default up. So the guard is exact on the 4 MiB worker, the 8 MiB main thread, and any `resourceLimits.stackSizeMb` alike. - `stack_guard!()` (defined in `lib.rs`) is the first statement of every recursive walker function — all **150** self-recursive or on-cycle functions across the 15 walker modules, found by script (every cycle in the call graph, not just direct self-calls). It returns `Default::default()` (`()`, `false`, `None`, `""`) so an exhausted walk simply stops descending; a hook returning `false` sends its caller down the generic child walk, whose own guard returns at once. - `extract_file` runs the whole walk under `stack::run_guarded`: if the flag is set afterwards the (truncated) result is discarded and replaced by `defer: nesting too deep for the native walker — wasm recovery handles it`. - `parse-pool.ts`: a comment at `new Worker(scriptPath)` records why there is deliberately no `resourceLimits.stackSizeMb` bump. - No new crates beyond `libc` as a direct unix dependency (already in `Cargo.lock` transitively). No wire/ABI change. Net effect for the reporter's repo: `deep.c` goes to the wasm path, lands as `function foo` plus a recorded parse warning, and the other 31,607 files index normally. `CODEGRAPH_KERNEL=0` and the `exclude` workaround are no longer needed. ## Tests **Rust unit tests** (`cargo test`, 21 passed — 7 new in `stack.rs`): the walkers for C, C++, Rust, TypeScript and Python are driven on a **1 MiB** thread (a quarter of Node's worker default) with 30k-deep nesting and must return `defer:` instead of crashing; shallow files are untouched; the latch resets between runs; the OS bounds are sane on the main thread and describe a small thread's own stack. **`__tests__/kernel-deep-nesting.test.ts`** (new, 8 tests — skips without a staged `.node`, fails under `CODEGRAPH_KERNEL_EXPECT=1` if the kernel is missing, like the other kernel suites): - every default-routed language (all 20) survives a 60k-deep expression on the main thread — clean result or the wasm fallback's partial result, never a crash; - the reporter's exact 16,384-brace C file is indexed (partial) on the main thread; - 200-deep expressions in every language still take the kernel path clean (the guard never trips on normal code); - inside a **default-sized 4 MiB `worker_threads` Worker** through `dist/`: the reporter's `deep.c` and a 60k-deep expression in every language come back `deferred` with exit 0, and a normal file still extracts natively; - end-to-end through the built CLI: `codegraph init` on a repo holding `deep.c` + `ok.c` exits 0 and records both files, with both functions. **Existing kernel suites**: all 15 (`kernel-*-parity`, `kernel-scaffold`, `kernel-retry-materialize`, `kernel-grammar-parity`) pass unchanged, 147 tests — the guard never fires on the parity fixtures. **Reporter's probes** (`one.js` from the issue, default 4 MiB worker, this build): `deep.c` → `deferred`, exitCode=0 (was rc=132/139); `deep100k.c` → `deferred`, exitCode=0. fix(rust): resolve self.field.method() on the field's declared type instead of a same-named method (#1585) (#1599)
Fixes #1585. **Stacked on #1596** (the base branch is `fix/1588-rust-impl-type-qualification`; this PR's own diff is the second commit). Merge #1596 first, then retarget/merge this one. ## What was wrong ```rust impl Outer { pub fn run(&mut self) { self.inner.run(); // inner: Inner } } ``` produced `Outer::run -> Outer::run` — recursion the source doesn't contain. The extractor collapsed every `self.<field>.<method>()` receiver to the bare method name (`run`), so the resolver only ever saw `run` and exact-matched the nearest same-named method — the calling method itself, or a method of an unrelated type. Nothing marked the edge as a guess, and no row stayed in `unresolved_refs`, so a consumer had no way to tell. The same happened when the field's type isn't a project type at all (`its: std::vec::IntoIter<_>` → `self.its.next()`, `matcher: Regex` → `self.matcher.is_match()`): the bare `next` / `is_match` attached to whatever local method shared the name. ripgrep had 279 self-edges on `main`; the issue lists three sites, all of this shape. (The issue's C++ control — "`Outer::run -> Inner::run` resolves correctly" — doesn't actually hold on `main`: `inner.h` is classified as C by the `.h` heuristic, so `Inner::run` never exists and the C++ repro self-edges too. That's #1592, fixed separately.) ## What this does Rust struct fields are not graph nodes, so the field's type can only come from the struct's declaration text. This follows the Go 2-hop precedent exactly (`matchGoFieldChainCall`, #1276), including its exclusivity rule: 1. **Extraction (TS walker + native kernel, identical, parity-tested):** a call whose receiver is `self.<field>` keeps the owner-field shape — `self.inner.run()` is emitted as `self.inner.run`. Deeper chains (`self.a.b.m()`), call receivers (`self.f().m()`), parenthesized receivers and bare `self` keep the bare name, exactly as before. 2. **Resolution (`matchRustSelfFieldCall`):** owner type = the calling method's qualified-name prefix (`Outer::run` → `Outer`); the field's declared type is read from the owner struct's **own declaration lines** (comment-stripped, line by line — same discipline as the Go helper); the method is resolved **and validated** on that type by `resolveMethodOnType` (confidence 0.85, `instance-method`). 3. **Exclusive:** when the field is declared with an external type, a generic parameter (`T`), a container that doesn't auto-deref (`Option`/`Vec`/`Mutex`/…), or can't be found, the ref **stays unresolved** — it never falls through to the bare-name strategies. That is the safe behaviour the issue asks for, and it is what #1276 already chose for Go. `rustFieldTypeName` looks through exactly the layers Rust's method-call auto-deref looks through: references (`&`, `&'a mut`) and the owning smart pointers `Box`/`Rc`/`Arc`. `Box<dyn Source>` yields the trait, whose method node the interface-impl synthesizer then fans out to every implementation. `Option<Inner>` is left alone — `self.inner.take()` is Option's method and must not become `Inner::take`. fix(rust): qualify generic/lifetime impl methods by the implementing type, not the trait (#1588) (#1596)
Fixes #1588. ## What was wrong The receiver of an `impl` block — the name that qualifies its methods, owns the `contains` edge, and sources the `implements` edge — was found positionally: the **last bare `type_identifier` child** of the `impl_item`. That works for `impl Source for FileSource`. But once the implementing type carries parameters it parses as a `generic_type`, and the only bare identifier left is the **trait's**: ```rust impl Source for FileSource → FileSource::read ✓ impl<T> Source for BufSource<T> → Source::read ✗ (should be BufSource::read) impl<'a> Iterator for Parents<'a> → Iterator::next ✗ impl Trait for &Foo → Trait::method ✗ ``` Two consequences, both reproduced on `main`: - `BufSource::read` did not exist in the graph, so `resolveMethodOnType("BufSource", "read")` and "who calls `BufSource::read`" had no answer, and every generic implementation of a trait collapsed onto the same trait-qualified name. - Because the impl's method carried the trait's qualified name, the interface-impl synthesizer treated the impl **body** as a second trait declaration and emitted a dispatch edge from it (`Source::read -> FileSource::read`, registered at the generic impl's line — a body of `{ 0 }` containing no call at all). The native kernel (`rustlang.rs`) mirrored the positional rule deliberately, bug-for-bug, to hold byte-parity with the TS walker — its header said "preserve, never fix via the grammar's trait:/type: fields". So the fix has to land on both sides at once. ## What this does Both extractors now read the grammar's **named fields** instead of scanning children. Everything else — the no-scope impl quirk, the source-order `contains` owner scan, method extraction — is untouched; the `contains` edge simply lands on the implementing type now instead of the trait. The issue's repro now gives `BufSource::read` at line 12, `BufSource -> Source`, and both synthesized edges registered at the declaration (line 2) — identical on the kernel path and with `CODEGRAPH_KERNEL=0`. (The remaining `UsesFile::go -> BufSource::read` exact-match guess there is the separate `self.field.method()` receiver problem, #1585, which stacks on this.) ## Tests - `__tests__/extraction.test.ts` (Rust Extraction): method qualified names for generic / lifetime / reference / scoped / generic-trait impls; the trait's qualified name names exactly one node; `implements` refs come from the implementing type for every shape; the `contains` edge lands on the type; tuple / `dyn` impls keep producing plain functions with no `implements` ref. - `__tests__/resolution.test.ts` (end-to-end): `Source::read` names only the declaration; dispatch fans out to **both** `FileSource::read` and `BufSource::read`, every synthesized edge registered at line 2; neither impl body sprouts a synthesized call. - `__tests__/fixtures/kernel-parity/torture.rs` grows all the new impl shapes; `kernel-rustlang-parity` (LF + CRLF) passes against the rebuilt kernel. - `CODEGRAPH_KERNEL_EXPECT=1 npx vitest run __tests__/kernel-*.test.ts` — all 15 suites, 147 tests pass. - Full `npm test`: 3180 passed, 9 skipped, 1 failed — `mcp-daemon.test.ts > daemon idle-times-out after the last client disconnects`, a 30 s timing test that passed on re-run in isolation (the machine was running four parallel suites and kernel builds at the time); unrelated to extraction. fix(c,cpp,objc,rust): index union declarations
A `union` declaration produced no symbol at all in any of the four
languages that have one. The type never entered the graph, and neither
did anything attached to it — in Rust every `impl Trait for MyUnion`
lost its edge, and the impl's methods were left with a qualifiedName
pointing at a type the graph did not contain.
`union_specifier` / `union_item` were absent from the extraction layer
entirely: no `<x>Types` list on the TS side, no dispatch branch in
either kernel walker.
They join `structTypes` (kind `struct` — NodeKind has no `union`), which
is the extension point the table-driven extractors already provide. The
body guard in extractStruct is untouched, so a bodiless `union U;` stays
a forward declaration and is still skipped, exactly like `struct U;`.
`resolveTypeAliasKind` accepts `union_specifier` too, so
`typedef union { … } N;` takes the typedef's name the way
`typedef struct { … } N;` already did. Without it the anonymous union
body would mint a second `<anonymous>` node beside the alias.
Both walkers change together so kernel<->wasm parity holds.

fix(python): bare class references produce references edges to classes (#1478) (#1493)
Python's class-as-value idioms (return SomeClass, x = SomeClass, registry dicts, classes passed as arguments) produced no references edges, so callers/impact on a Django/DRF serializer missed the views that consume it. Three gates dropped them: - return_statement was never dispatched by PYTHON_SPEC (kernel mirrored) - the extraction gate (definedHere) collected function/method names only - resolution accepted function/method targets only (matchFunctionRef + the function_ref import fast path) Capture return_statement for Python (single expression; tuple returns not descended), admit same-file CLASS names to the gate, and accept class targets for Python bare identifiers — scoped to Python so the TS/JS KIND FILTER contract is untouched. The docopt false-positive mechanism behind the function-only rule (lowercase locals vs same-named methods) doesn't transfer: methods stay excluded for bare ids, and the same-file/import gate + unique-or-drop rules still apply. Probed on django-rest-framework (~250 files): 559 new references→class edges, 10/10 sampled genuine (serializer_class = AuthTokenSerializer, the ModelSerializer field-mapping registry, aliases, ctor args, isinstance). R7b batch 4 #4 — the FINAL R7b language (docs/design/dart-kernel-port-checklist.md is the authoritative quirk list). The fourth vendored-grammar-C language, with a twist: production dart resolved its wasm from tree-sitter-wasms, whose dart dependency is an UNPINNED github:UserNobody14/tree-sitter-dart — a routine dependency update would have silently changed dart's grammar. This PR byte-copies the shipping 0.1.13 artifact into src/extraction/wasm/ (VENDORED_WASM_LANGS += dart) and compiles the same-commit (d4d8f3e337d8) parser.c/scanner.c in the kernel — table identity proven by the kernel-grammar-parity row. crates.io tree-sitter-dart is the nielsenko fork (different lineage) — rejected. The center of gravity is THE SIBLING-BODY DOUBLE-WALK, reproduced bug-for-bug: dart attaches every function/method body as a NEXT SIBLING of its signature, and the TS walkers consume each body TWICE — once via resolveBody (attributed to the function/method) and once via the enclosing generic walk (attributed to the file/class). Duplicate local-function nodes with the SAME id under different parents, duplicated calls/instantiates refs, and file/class-attributed fn-ref twins all emit in the exact observed interleave (a dedicated fixture pins the duplicate-id rows; the bloc kind-census spot-check pins the counts). ground truth); parity passed FIRST RUN on all three repos.
THE NOVEL MECHANISM — vendored-grammar-C (the §4 tracker's prescription,
first use): the crates.io tree-sitter-kotlin 0.3.8 pins `tree-sitter >= 0.21,
< 0.23` (the kernel links 0.25) and tree-sitter-kotlin-ng is a DIFFERENT
grammar (8 fields vs 0, renamed kinds — extractor-breaking), so no crate dep
is possible. The fwcd 0.3.8 tag's sha-matched parser.c + scanner.c are
vendored into codegraph-kernel/grammars/kotlin and compiled by build.rs (cc),
exposed via tree-sitter-language::LanguageFn. The wasm re-vendor is
behavior-NEUTRAL (0 CST/error disagreements across 1,984 gate-repo files;
old-vs-new full-init dumps byte-identical ×3) — a reproducibility re-vendor,
ABI stays 14.
Walker firsts: extension-function receivers (getReceiverType →
`WidgetK::extend` QN OVERRIDE with no package prefix, the qualified-receiver
`com::qext` first-segment bug, and the owner-contains fallback that excludes
`interface` kinds and is source-order dependent) and extractModifiers
(expect/actual platform modifiers → the node DECORATORS wire field on every
created node — the KMP synthesizer's feed, incl. `actual typealias`).
Preserved bug-for-bug: the FIELD_COUNT-0 dead cluster (no signatures, ZERO
type-annotation refs), hook-consumed property initializers emitting nothing
(incl. `by lazy {}`), the bodiless-vs-bodied class header asymmetry, enum-
entry bodies being invisible, KDoc never a docstring AND chain-breaking,
comment-gluing into import/package extents, `@Anno(args)` emitting nothing
while `@Marker` decorates, zero instantiates refs, the paren-then-lambda
`trailing()` garbage callee, text-includes visibility/suspend false
positives, and the packaged-file value-ref target drop. The fun-interface
misparse-recovery hook is DEFER-SHIELDED (every such file has_error) and
deliberately not ported. The swift-sweep lesson pre-applied: the shared
`assignment` shadow-prune case is implemented alongside the
property_declaration case.

Grammar bump first, validated standalone: tree-sitter-wasms ^0.4.0 (ABI 13) → crate 0.7.3 — with a provenance twist: the wasm is built from the CRATE TARBALL's src/ (alex-pinkus keeps generated files off main and the 0.7.3-with-generated-files tag ships an older ABI-14 generation that can never sha-match; grammar.json rules are JSON-equal; the tarball is byte-for-byte what the kernel's cargo build compiles — table identity by construction). Older crates evaluated and rejected: clean-parse shapes are byte-identical on 0.7.3 (53-line CST battery diff, all inert), so an older pin buys nothing and loses the macro-era wins. Delta = error-set membership (63 old-error files parse clean: swift-testing #expect, #Preview/#GET macros, package access, typed throws — vapor 23.1%→9.3%; 21 NEW-only regressions in 3 probed construct classes) + two gate-found categories: docstring boundaries near #if directives (7 clean files, docstring-field-only — verified mechanically) and array-literal-callee call refs (2 refs, 1 file). Every hunk classified via the error-union rule + parked-ref↔edge ripple pairing. Walker (the arc's biggest) centers on the #1020 DEDICATED property branch: computed properties → property nodes with the getter walked under the property (SwiftUI body), static let/var → constant/variable, stored → field, decorator/type-annotation/@Siblings-attr-arg refs all attached to the ENCLOSING TYPE, stored initializer calls attributed to the class. Preserved bug-for-bug: the never-resolving 'parameter' field (zero param type refs, zero signatures), present-false isAsync, open→internal visibility, everything-is-extends inheritance (first type_identifier per specifier), no instantiates refs ever, subscript reads as `calls arr`, `defer` as `calls defer`, multi-case enum entries minting only the first case, /** */ block docs ignored AND chain-breaking, init/deinit/subscript minting no nodes with visitNode-routed bodies (calls → class, static reads → nothing), multi- segment extension resolveName, sugar extension names, the #selector shapes, and the value_argument label-forward skip. perf(kernel): cFnPtr native extraction sweep — step 2, pass 230→151s across the arc (§7a.10) (#1365)
Task #5 step 2. The fuse-then-link refactor (#1364) left the extraction sweep as a clean per-file boundary: raw text in → collected facts out. This ports that sweep to the native kernel: `cfnptr_scan_files` (codegraph-kernel/src/cfnptr.rs) strips and scans a batch of 16 files per NAPI call, and the TS side only reads files, ships batches, interns the returned facts, and resolves include paths. The JS sweep remains as the fallback (no binary, feature detection against older binaries, CODEGRAPH_KERNEL=0, or CODEGRAPH_KERNEL_CFNPTR=0). Parity discipline: the JS regexes are the spec, so the scanners are hand-rolled byte machines reproducing that engine — ASCII \w/\b next to UNICODE \s (NBSP/U+2000-200A/FEFF decoded from UTF-8), alternation order, lastIndex resume, and the observable backtracking dimensions (INIT/ARRAY modifier and struct/star/bracket optionals, DISPATCH's greedy segment loop); greedy shortcuts only where backtracking provably can't rescue a match. The native stripper blanks per UTF-16 code unit, so its output is string-identical to the TS stripper — pinned by a new kernel arm on the strip differential oracle (fixtures + 500 seeded random cases). Gates, all green: new differential suite (adversarial fixture project — CRLF, NBSP, continuations, decoy strings, unterminated comments, backtracking shapes — indexed native-vs-JS: identical edge streams, plus a record-level scanner check); repo differential on git/redis/vim/SameBoy (identical, 705/852/433/180 edges); probe-hash on the live linux kernel DB reproduced f6e1713d… (279,335 rows); linux init counts exact 2,049,153/6,413,518; dump sha 6dd1185b… reproduced (10,446,478 lines); full suite green ×2 (153 files / 2588 tests). Measured (8c cg1212, quiet host): cFnPtr sub A=47.9s B=1.1 C=40.9 D=24.1 E=36.8 = 150.9s vs step 1's 179s and the pre-arc 230s (−34% cumulative); the sweep itself halved (94.5→47.9s, JS strips 132.4k→68.9k). callback-synthesis phase 199.9→171.1s. fix(kernel): CRLF docstring parity — JS multiline ^ anchors after \r, regex crate's (?m)^ is \n-only (#1329)
On CRLF checkouts (every Windows autocrlf clone) the JS reference's block-continuation strip /^\s*\*\s?/gm finds a line start after the \r and its greedy \s* consumes the \n, leaving a bare \r in the docstring; the kernel's (?m)^ pass matched after \n only and kept \r\n. Caught by the O2 Windows VM leg (6 kernel-tsjs-parity failures), reproduced on macOS by CRLF-converting the fixtures. js_multiline_strip now replicates the JS anchor set (\n, \r, U+2028, U+2029) for all five line-marker passes; CRLF variants of every torture fixture are pinned in kernel-tsjs-parity, derived in-memory so nothing can normalize them away. The shared docstring/textutil modules moved to crate level. The gate caught a real cross-language bug: fn-ref dedupe and value-ref self-target checks must compare node ID STRINGS, not node-table rows — ids collide for same-(kind, name, line) nodes, which minified one-line bundles hit routinely (retrofit's website JS exposed it; latent in the TS/JS walker since R2, never released). Fixed in both walkers. Benchmark honesty: dubbo fresh-init on an 11-core Mac is ~flat (parse-loop wall 5,020→4,394ms; total ~11.3s both arms) because that wall is main-thread-bound (reads + store), not worker-CPU-bound — the §6 expectation assumed otherwise. Where worker CPU binds the kernel delivers: dubbo on a 2-CPU/6GB container drops 27.8-28.6s → 22.3-22.8s (~1.25×). The identified lever for the many-core headline is decoding kernel buffers directly into store rows (skipping per-node JS object materialization); the buffer contract already carries everything. feat(kernel): R3 — TS/JS equivalence gate passed, kernel default-on
Gate evidence (docs/design/rust-kernel-migration-plan.md §4b):
- Graph parity, byte-identical (stronger than the §5 ≤0.5% bar): full
codegraph-init dump-diffs kernel-vs-wasm on express (13,712 rows),
excalidraw (89,898), and vscode (2,378,238 rows) — identical bytes.
Python control repo (flask) identical + timing unchanged. The parity
harness is now ORDER-sensitive (emission order drives rowids, which
drive resolution order) and dumps come from the new
scripts/dump-graph.mjs (natural keys, no rowids/timestamps).
- The one real find, caught by the vscode tier: tree-sitter error
RECOVERY is encoding-dependent — byte-identical grammar sources and
the same core (0.25.10) recover erroring files differently under
UTF-8 (native) vs UTF-16 (web-tree-sitter) parsing; proven by
reproducing the wasm tree with a native UTF-16 parse. Policy: the
kernel defers any file whose tree has_error() to the wasm extractor
(silent 'defer:' signal, per file) — parity by construction on
erroring files (incidence 0-0.42% across the gate repos), and the
harness fails if deferrals exceed 10% so a broken kernel can't hide
behind the fallback.
- Retrieval invariants: canonical excalidraw flow (mutateElement →
renderStaticScene) connects end-to-end on the kernel-indexed graph;
synthesized-edge families present. Agent A/B is vacuous under
byte-identical DBs (same justification as #1320-#1322).
- Perf: vscode init 105.4s → 82.1s (1.28×) on an 11-core Mac;
excalidraw on a 2-CPU/6GB Linux container (the CI-runner envelope)
6.2-7.1s → 4.3-4.8s (~1.5×). Linux arm64 in-container build: all 22
kernel tests green under CODEGRAPH_KERNEL_EXPECT=1. Windows VM leg
deferred (VM stopped; prlctl start needs Parallels Pro) — benign: a
missing .node falls back to wasm, and the release matrix builds and
gates the win32 prebuilds.
- Full suite: 2,465 tests pass WITH default-on routing, so the entire
extraction corpus now exercises the kernel for TS/JS wherever a
.node is staged.
DEFAULT_ROUTED = {typescript, tsx, javascript, jsx}. Override:
CODEGRAPH_KERNEL_LANGS (replaces the set) / CODEGRAPH_KERNEL=0 (kill).

Replaces the R1 seed .scm emitter with a bespoke Rust walker (codegraph-kernel/src/tsjs/) that mirrors TreeSitterExtractor's TS/JS paths function-for-function: declarations (incl. #808 field/property classification), qualified names, docstrings (#780 wrapper climbs), signatures, imports/re-exports + per-binding refs, calls with receiver-qualified callees (#1230 literal-receiver skip), instantiations, decorators, inheritance, type annotations (#381), type-alias members + tuple contracts (#359/#634), React component recognition (#841 forwardRef/memo/styled), object-of-functions / zustand-through-middleware / RTK Query endpoints + generated hooks / vuex + pinia store shapes, function-as-value capture with the flush gate (#756), and value-reference edges with the shadow prune (#895/#897). The generic query emitter is deleted — extraction parity needs logic .scm can't express; future languages get walkers too (migration plan §4a). Positions and JS string-slice semantics are emitted in UTF-16 code units natively, so kernel output is byte-identical to web-tree-sitter's — no column diff class exists. Parity evidence (macOS): scripts/kernel-parity.mjs (full-object multiset diff per file) — this repo 353/353 files, excalidraw 643/643 (10,650 nodes / 10,726 edges / 68,307 refs), plus torture fixtures checked into __tests__/fixtures/kernel-parity/ and enforced in npm test by kernel-tsjs-parity.test.ts. The strict compare caught one real decoder bug the loose harness missed: refs must NOT carry denormalized filePath/language at the extractFromSource seam (the store fills them). Perf: extraction 2.6× single-thread on excalidraw (487ms vs 1,255ms, identical outputs). feat(kernel): R1 scaffold — napi-rs extraction kernel, buffer contract, routing + fallback, grammar-parity CI
Phase 0 of the Rust extraction-kernel migration (docs/design/ rust-kernel-migration-plan.md, now checked in with §3a recording the shipped state): - codegraph-kernel/ napi-rs crate: extractFile(path, content, language) → five flat buffers (meta/nodes/edges/refs/arena), one JS boundary crossing per file. Node ids computed Rust-side, byte-identical to generateNodeId (pinned by test vector). Reserved per-node metrics slot for the Arc 3.2 code-metrics work. - Generic .scm-driven emitter (@def.<kind>/@name/@ref.<kind> captures, byte-range scope stack → ::-joined qualified names, contains edges, refs attributed to the innermost enclosing symbol). Seed TS/JS queries are smoke-level; R2 replaces them with the full port. - Routing seam in extractFromSource with per-file wasm fallback. DEFAULT_ROUTED is empty — no behavior change until a language passes its equivalence gate (R3). Dev opt-in: CODEGRAPH_KERNEL_LANGS. Kill switch: CODEGRAPH_KERNEL=0. Loader verifies ABI + kind tables before routing; EDGE_KINDS became a runtime array because kind order is now wire contract. - Grammar-source parity: vendored TS/TSX/JS wasm grammars built from the exact crate revisions (tree-sitter-typescript v0.23.2, tree-sitter-javascript v0.25.0, checked-in parser.c, ts-cli 0.25.10) — the tree-sitter-wasms builds were 2023-era, which the new kernel-grammar-parity test caught on day one. Production TS/JS parsing gets 2.5 years of grammar fixes; full suite green (2456 tests). - Build/release wiring: scripts/build-kernel.sh + npm run build:kernel; release.yml kernel prebuild matrix (continue-on-error — the kernel is optional everywhere, bundles fall back to the wasm path); bundles stage lib/kernel/codegraph-kernel.node; release job runs the kernel suites with CODEGRAPH_KERNEL_EXPECT=1.
